Photo Challenge: Collage

How many times did I ask
on a breath and a thought
that you consider the moment?
Consider joining me in an adventure
or a moment of solitude,
or a wisp of air.

Your thoughtful response; a
soft eye, maybe an interested ear.
And in another breath, the arc of your
glorious neck sharing an indelible
instant, season, lifetime.
It was enough.

    “This moment of solitude.”
Anna, this so speaks to the response I received from my little emotionally ruined OTTB gelding many many years ago when we had only just begun to work with the trainer whose words still ring in my heart “…you’re addressing his mind, not his body.” After our very elementary lesson, I walked with him beside me and murmured to him twice, “…you did sooo good.”
It’s a little hard to repeat this again now… but I literally saw his face and eyes take on the softest of beaming.
    “It is enough.”

I lost a friend this weekend. His name was Hello Handsome, and he was a 17 hand gentleman. His long lower lip would quiver in anticipation of a treat as he nickered in anticipation. Your poem was the perfect description of our relationship. I cried when I read it, because it brought back images and feelings and moments that he and I experienced together — and our last perfect ride when we were quietly in harmony. Thank you.
